Lymphatic Wellness Therapies were developed because of a Freon poisoning that occurred to me in 2002. Because the protocols for poisoning by this chemical refrigerant are specific to inhalation or contact tissue burns and my poisoning was from an injection of this toxic substance, there was really nowhere to turn to find out how to address the myriad of symptoms. I developed this practice of Lymphatic Wellness Therapies to alleviate my specific lymphatic challenges that occurred due to this unfortunate poisoning; and then discovered that these techniques are able to help so many others.
The lymphatic system is typically viewed as the network of vessels, capillaries, ducts, organs, nodes and tissues, and its “defined” jobs are to carry nutrients to the cells, remove waste from the cells, maintain fluid and protein levels even throughout the body, and to fight infections and foreign bodies (bacteria, viruses) that may invade the body. Although these “assigned” functions are important, science has yet to fully understand the lymphatic system and it is one of the last frontiers that science has to research. The lymph system that cleans the brain (glymphatic system) wasn’t even “discovered” until 2013.
The lymphatic system is so much more! Lymph is only one of the names that the white fluid in our body goes by. The white fluid is also called interstitial or extracellular fluid, blood plasma or blood serum or your white blood cells. Unlike the blood which is called always called blood no matter where it is found in the body, the white fluid is named based on where it is found. But all of these names are referring to basically the same fluid.
The lymphatic system is a sensory system. Similar to the other sensory systems in the body (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell), the lymphatic system senses changes in vibration. And this amazing sensory capacity is what recognizes foreign bodies and infections and is what signals the immune functions of the lymphatic system to call up the specific immune cells that fight those foreign bodies and infections. It is also this sensory capacity that maintains fluid level equilibrium in the body. The sensory capacity of lymph is how we feel and where we hold our emotions. The reason a happy song makes us feel happy is because of this sensory capacity of lymph.
If you’ve ever heard a sound that keeps ringing in your ears long after the source of the sound has stopped transmitting, you can understand the way the lymphatic system carries a vibration. The sensory aspect of our lymphatic system is what “remembers” every vibration we experience. These experiences are literally carried in our lymph.
Why Lymphatic Wellness Therapies?
Partly because the techniques used are unique and different than traditional techniques and partly because it is addressing the very root of all dis-ease, the lymph.
During a session of Lymphatic Wellness Therapies any number of tools or modalities may be incorporated in order to address the physical and vibrational/sensory aspects of the lymphatic system. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) techniques, audible and inaudible sound, vibrational tools and symbol work may be included in a single session. The work is usually very relaxing and is often described as having a tranquil “floating” sensation.
